Rocky Description

People who are involved into ham radio and are passionate about their amateur radio hobby might at some point require a solution for merging the capabilities of their PCs with the external transmitters they use for recording. Rocky is an application that was aimed at helping amateur radio aficionados to record input audio signals by using their PCs.

The application will provide users with the ability to preview the input signal from their recording devices and it will allow them to visualize the wave form into two distinct ways. They will have the choice of a spectrum visualizer (with a sound level grid overlay) or a waterfall display (which has a high temporal resolution, as opposed to the frequency resolution of the spectrum display).

Rocky will communicate with the PC’s sound card and this will ensure a smooth audio streaming because of the low latency this method provides. In spite of that, users of older versions of Windows must take notice as although this method is better for the I/Q audio recording, it probably might not work for them.

People will be able to preview the audio signal in the spectrum display and apply an additional non-linear filter, in order to improve the overall signal-to-noise ration and highlight even the faintest signals.

One useful feature provided by Rocky is the I/Q balancing tool. This will offer one the chance to automatically calibrate the TX or RX I/Q imbalances, without the need for additional advanced electronics equipment.

Support for the famous BPSK31 radio receiver is also offered and the application provides a special mode that corrects any potential errors that might occur when using the transmitter, this way improving the accuracy of the decoding process.
