CursorFX Description
CursorFX is a system tweaking application whose purpose is to help you replace the default Windows mouse cursor using fresh and attractive designs.
It comes packed with over 12 anti-aliased 32-bit cursors. You can install the utility on Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8.
Straightforward design
The GUI looks clean and well organized, allowing you to browse throughout the collection of cursors. You can preview the cursors directly in the main window before activating them.
What’s more, you can delete the cursors that present no interest to you and view properties about each theme, such as name, author, version, and email address. Working with CursorFX proves to be really easy because the new designs can be implemented with a single click.
Theme editor
CursorFX’s features are not limited to only a few preset cursor packages. You can download some more from the Internet, edit the custom designs, or create new ones from scratch using the built-in theme editor.
A new cursor can be configured by defining each cursor state (e.g. ‘Standard select,’ ‘Working in background,’ ‘Busy’), special effects, and trails in terms of x and y hotspot, interval between frames, and script. Plus, you can import custom PNG files and assign user-defined sound to each mouse click.
Other important options worth being mentioned enable you to apply shadow effects to the cursor, adjust the sharpness and darkness of the shadow, and opt for dynamic or static shadow mode.
In case you are not satisfied with the results, CursorFX gives you the possibility to change your mind and enable the default Windows cursor using a custom hotkey. Tests have shown that the application carries out a task quickly and without hampering your system resources.
Final verdict
All in all, CursorFX offers rookies the option to apply read-to-use cursor designs while advanced users can customize the appearance of the cursors in detail. On the downside, some of the features displayed in the GUI are not available in the free version of the program, so you cannot resize and change the color of the cursors, apply motion trail effects, enable effects on mouse click, adjust brightness and contrast, and smooth the cursor movement.
