Fling Description
Working or studying on the computer for countless hours usually means researching information with the help of a search engine. Instead of switching back and forth between your project and web browser whenever you have to look up something, you can turn to Fling.
This simple application can open a menu of multiple search engines, allowing you to pick one and perform a search right away. The menu can be opened anywhere, regardless of the program you’re working with.
Quickly look up information using any search engine
The tool gets installed quickly and without issues. It runs in the systray and doesn’t interrupt you with any messages. To take advantage of it, you simply have to select the key word or phrase you want to research, then trigger the Ctrl + Alt + S key combination (default) to open the Fling menu and pick one of the listed search engines.
By default, it can find information on Yahoo, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft, IMDB, Thesaurus, Bing, Wikipedia, and Amazon. Any unwanted or unnecessary search engines can be removed from the list while new ones can be added. This can be done by directly editing the URLs in Notepad or another text editor by following the format given by the developer. It’s possible to add as many search engines as you want.
Change the hotkey for opening the menu
Moreover, if you use Ctrl + Alt + S to trigger another command on a global level, you can avoid this conflict and change the default combination by visiting the settings panel in the right-click menu of Fling’s systray icon. You can set one key or a combination of two, three or four keys. For instance, you can use G, Ctrl + G, Ctrl + Alt + G or Ctrl + Alt + Shift + G.
It worked smoothly on Windows 10 in our tests and had low impact on the computer’s performance. Modifying the list of search engines may be difficult for users who are accustomed to customizing settings in a graphical interface. Nevertheless, Fling is a practical and easy-to-use tool for quickly looking up information on the web.
