JPGRAR Description
Steganography enables you to hide an archive behind an image file. By doing so, you can then distribute the picture hoping that no one will discover it’s just a curtain that conceals personal files. In other words, it provides you with the means of sharing files without using encryption.
JPGRAR is an application that performs a steganography operation, pairing a RAR archive and a JPG picture to hide the contents of the first. The JPG image works normally, except that it also carries the archived files, which can be extracted using JPGRAR as well.
Select the archive, the picture, and press a button to hide the latter
To keep things as simple as possible, JPGRAR features a one-window application with two separate tabs, one for creating the pair and the other for extracting the content of a JPG that was previously processed.
All you have to do is select the RAR file you want to hide and the picture file. For your convenience, drag and drop support is available. At the push of a button, JPGRAR creates the output JPG and prompts you to select the location where it should be saved.
GUI alternative to a console command
The same result can be obtained using the Windows console and a command called ‘copy’, which is, in fact, used by JPGRAR as well. The advantage of JPGRAR in comparison with the console is, obviously, related to the ease of use and the more user-friendly interface.
The output picture can be sent to your friends or colleagues, who can then use JPGRAR to extract the contents of the archive.
Try out steganography with different combinations of files
By using the ‘copy’ command, JPGRAR practically combines two files, creating a pair. Therefore, despite its name, you can try to use it with any other two types of files. Nevertheless, please note that some of the files might get corrupted, so make sure to backup data before experimenting.
