PDF Optimizer (PDF Linearizer) Command Line Description
For those of you who aren’t that familiar with PDF Linearization, it’s basically a special technique of organizing PDF files which helps them become more “readable” over the Internet. Even simpler, a non-linearized PDF file needs to be downloaded before it can be viewed, while opposed to a linearized one which can be easily viewed online directly, without the need of third-party PDF-related utilities.
As its name clearly states, PDF Optimizer (PDF Linearizer) Command Line is a development-orientated application designed to help you optimize PDF files for easy web preview. It basically makes the PDF pages viewable without having to download the whole PDF file with the help of your computer’s browser.
The utility is clearly intended to be run from your web server, hence the CLI-based user interface. It brings to the table six different linearization modes, which can be viewed by running the app from the command prompt.
To get it up and running, you first need to download the package, and launch it via a CMD session with full administrator rights. Next, make use of the following command: “pdfopt [options] <input PDF file> [<output PDF file>]”, where “input PDF file” is the source PDF file. It’s also worth pointing out that you can check out the app’s official installation guide.
