CoolReader Description
CoolReader is a simple-to-use application that allows you to view the content of e-books. It supports several file types, including FB2, TXT, RTF, DOC, EPUB, HTML and MOBI.
This a portable app, so installing CoolReader is not required. It means that you can save the tool on a removable device, store it on any computer and directly run its executable file. What’s more important is the fact that no leftover items can be found in the Windows registry or hard drive.
The interface of the program is based on a clean interface with an intuitive layout. Documents can be imported with the help of the file browser, since the ‘drag and drop’ method is not supported.
CoolReader lets you use a search function, scroll the pages and minimize the app to the system tray, toggle full screen mode, zoom in and out, as well as rotate the page orientation.
Additionally, you can set bookmarks and directly access the table of contents, go to the first or last page, previous or next chapter, open recent books and export the current book to the WOL format.
From the ‘Settings’ area you can make some adjustments when it comes to the window (e.g. startup action, controls), page (e.g. margins, footnotes), styles (e.g. text color, background color, font hinting) and the stylesheet (e.g. alignment, first line).
The simple-to-use app requires a low amount of system resources, has a good response time and is pretty stable. We have not come across any issues during our tests; CoolReader did not freeze, crash or pop up error dialogs. Too bad there is no help file available. Nevertheless, CoolReader’s features can be figured out even by inexperienced users.
