Local Lister Description

While there are many tools you can use to check the status of networked devices, a simple, portable solution is often the best way to go.

Local Lister is a minimalistic program that can help you track the current status of all the machines on your local network. It performs a scan of a user-defined IP range and lets you know which of the connected devices are online or offline.

Simple, easy-to-use tool that offers a rather limited array of features

If all you need is to scan your network and learn which of the connected devices are online, Local Lister should do the job just fine. It is relatively novice-friendly and it allows you to customize the scanning range.

However, the program does not display hostnames, so you have to be familiar with each device’s IP address to be able to figure out which of them are online or offline.

Basic network scanning tool that provides no feedback

Once you have set the IP range you wish to verify, you can launch the scanning process and let the program do its thing. However, no feedback is offered while the operation is taking place, so you have no way of knowing how long the scan is going to take.

Furthermore, Local Lister becomes completely unresponsive once the scan has begun, and the only way to stop the operation is to force the application to shut down.

Minimalistic and outdated user interface

From a visual standpoint, Local Lister is not very impressive. Of course, a simple network scanner does not need a particularly flashy interface, but it does look somewhat out of place when run on the latest operating systems.

All in all, Local Lister sets out to provide you with a straightforward method of verifying the status of all the devices on your local network and, to a certain extent, it does its job. However, if offers a limited set of features and provides no feedback while a scan is taking place.
