SnapIt Description
Taking screenshots of your desktop can come in handy in many situations, such as showing off your neat icon layout to your buddies over chat or making a quick demonstration of an app.
SnapIt is one of the utilities you can turn to when you want to capture areas of your desktop with as little effort as possible.
Minimalistic GUI and functions
Once you install this application, it automatically goes to the system tray, and you can right-click its icon to explore its features.
You will only be able to either capture a new snapshot or access the Properties window where you can configure some of its settings. And these are all the functions provided by SnapIt, in addition to exploring the documentation.
Capture rectangles of your desktop
The default hotkey of SnapIt is PrintScreen and, unfortunately, if it is already associated with a different application, you do not get any warning. On the bright side, you can change it to another supported hotkey, namely F10, F11 or F12 by accessing the settings.
Another downside is the fact that it does not support other shapes besides rectangles, not even freehand selections, meaning that you are stuck with adjustable rectangles for all your screenshots.
Rename and convert snapshots
SnapIt offers you the possibility to automatically save the captured images to a chosen folder and to rename them according to the pattern you define. More precisely, you can specify a prefix then choose between incremental and random name generation.
You can also export the screenshots to several supported formats such as JPEG, GIF, TIFF, PNG or BMP. However, you cannot alter their quality or number of colors.
All in all, SnapIt is a minimalistic solution that can help you capture rectangles of your desktop and its feature-set might prove enough for some beginners. Nonetheless, it lacks several functions that could make it a worthy contented on the market of image capture software.
