Cypherix LE Description
As far as communication goes, different encryption methods got developed, because the Internet and secret services are not the only threat, and didn’t even exist back in the day. Modern communication is incredibly sensitive, especially carried from a computer with an active Internet connection. Luckily, there are various applications just like Cypherix LE that want to keep all of your personal stuff in a safe place.
Create one or more encrypted drive volumes
The first time you run it the application greets you with a prompt that gradually takes you through a series of steps, by the end of which you have transformed some of your disk space in a secure drive. The process can be skipped, but before you can fully use anything, you need to create a drive.
This process creates a virtual disk drive you can even carry around with you, but the target PC needs to have this application installed. Besides a name, you need to set a specific disk size, which this edition of Cypherix is limited to 100 MB, as well as provide a password with which to keep the drive secure and open.
Easy navigation and file encryption
Once created, it’s automatically mounted with an available drive letter. It can be changed from the main window, where it’s also possible to view content, unmount the image, or even create more volumes. In addition to interface navigation, the volume is rendered as a regular removable drive, and can be opened and processed with Windows Explorer.
The drive doesn’t automatically load, unless you specify this rule. You need to remember the password, because it’s the only key to access it. Moreover, take care where you save the virtual drive file if you ever want to get stored files back.
One last tool that needs to be specified is a built-in file encryption. Configuring it takes only a little while, with options to select the target, set password, and whether or not to create a self-extracting EXE. The PC you extract content on with the automatic EXE does not need to have the application installed.
To sum it up
Bottom line is that there’s more and more need and demand for extra layers of security, especially when it comes to personal files. Sure enough there’s a chance you lose the drive, but this can be avoided easily. It could do with a bit more space, even in this basic edition, but it can do for personal text documents or pictures, considering you can create more than one drive.
