Calaym Description

Besides offering support in various work domains, the computer can also be used as a means of relaxation. Even though media can easily be found over the Internet, playing them in offline mode requires an application capable of rendering them. Calaym is just one of the many available choices, putting various tools at your disposal.

Clean design and simple controls

Once the main window is brought up there are no visual elements to make it stand out in the crowd. The interface is clean and simple, with a large playlist displaying imported elements. Playback options are found in a bottom toolbar, along with a volume slider, as well as the possibility to toggle repeat and shuffle.

Playing most common audio formats

Unfortunately, songs you want to play can only be added through the file menu, with no integrated support for drag and drop. Moreover, there are not many file types it can play, MP3, FLAC, MIDI, WAV, OGG, WMA being a few of them.

Schedule application functions and computer power options

An interesting feature that sets it apart though, is the possibility to schedule events. Virtually every function the application lets you take advantage of can be set to trigger at a specific time. Additionally, your computer’s power functions can also benefit from the schedule. However, this would have been a little more helpful if it was capable of playing video files.

The application can be set to minimize to the system tray so that it doesn’t take up necessary space on your desktop. Furthermore, you can fully customize hotkeys to make playback more accessible.

Connect to your favorite radio station

Moreover, you can switch to a mode that allows you to connect to Internet radio. There are no presets available, so you manually need to provide preferred URLs. Entries are stored in a list you can easily access whenever you want to switch to a different station.

To end with

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Calaym is a handy and clean media player. It’s not the best of its kind, offering little variety and few elements that makes it worthy of being amongst the top industry giants. However, it does the job flawlessly and you can give it a try if you’re looking for something new.
