CryptoExpert Lite Description
This is the lite version of CryptoExpert, a security application that you can use to create password-protected vaults, in order to prevent unauthorized users from accessing private information.
CryptoExpert Lite adopts the Windows Explorer interface, adding a new toolbar and changing the context menu entries. You can create a new vault easily through a wizard where you can specify a vault name and location (optionally mark it as default).
Adjusting the vault size is done by moving a slider or directly inputting the numerical value (in KB, MB or GB).
In the next steps you can establish the password used for unlocking the vault, encryption algorithm (e.g. CAST 128-bit, Triple DES 168-bit) and key derivation (SHA1 or RIPEMD 160-bit), ask CryptoExpert Lite to quickly format the new location, as well as choose the file system type (NTFS or FAT).
From this point on, an additional drive with an assigned letter will be mounted whenever you open a vault, and you can perform file operations under normal circumstances.
Other options available in the CryptoExpert Lite toolbar allow you to add an existing vault, set the tool to automatically look for all vaults on the current computer and open all vaults at system startup, manage USB keys and generate key files, schedule the vaults for locking after a specific time interval, enable hotkey support, and others.
The application has a fair response time and may take a while to open or close a vault. It uses minimum CPU and RAM, so it doesn’t affect the overall performance of the computer. No error dialogs were shown in our tests, and the tool did not hang or crash. All in all, CryptoExpert Lite delivers a simple solution to securing data. Unfortunately, it cannot prevent vault files from being deleted.
