Dup Scout Pro Description
Dup Scout Pro is an application designed to help you remove all duplicate files from your disks, network locations and network-attached storage devices.
The software comes with a clean, easy to use interface. It allows you to choose the areas where you want the software to search for copied files, with four default settings: directories, all local disks, servers and NAS devices and all servers on the network.
You can further customize your search by excluding particular directories or subfolders. By default, the tool ignores system folders (such as Windows and Program Files).
After the search is complete, which has a duration proportional with the amount of data that needs to be processed, the app lists the duplicate files and allows you to sort the list by various parameters; these include creation time, file size and type.
The range of actions that can be used on the duplicates includes replacing them with shortcuts, hard links, moving the files to a user-defined directory, compressing or deleting them. Dup Scout Pro also allows you to create ignore lists for locations that should be exempt from the search.
Customization of the application allows you to set it to turn itself off upon successful completion of the tasks as well as enable the recursive detection. You can also set up shortcuts for easy handling with the keyboard.
Testing showed an accurate selection of duplicate files and an effective application of the selected actions even if the files were placed in various folders over the drive.
All in all, Dup Scout Pro is a user-friendly piece of software, cleanly designed, that helps you claim free space on your computer or network. However, despite the fact that it looks easy to use, it was not created with first-time users in mind.
