DupTerminator Description
DupTerminator is a feather-light tool made to find and remove duplicate files in order to declutter the disk and make room for new data. It has advanced filters than can be figured out even by less experienced users.
No setup required
This is a portable application, so there is no installation implied. You can save all files to any directory on the disk or on an external storage device and simply click the .exe to launch DupTerminator on any PC. It doesn’t add new entries to the Windows registry or Start menu, so it doesn’t leave behind any items after removal.
Plain-looking interface with search filters
The GUI’s appearance doesn’t stand out because the app doesn’t put emphasis on graphical elements, but it’s easy to navigate.
You can create a new scan job by customizing filters when it comes to file exclusions by size (e.g. minimum and maximum, same file name), as well as put together a whitelist or blacklist with file filters by choosing predefined profiles.
Quickly find and remove duplicates
In the next step you can indicate the scan scope with any folders (including or excluding subdirectories). You can add as many directories as you want and change their path afterward if necessary, as well as point out any folder you want to skip.
Once a scan job is completed, DupTerminator populates the results list with all duplicates, allowing you to make a smart selection by last access time, file name or file name length. Dupes can be moved to another directory, while the original items can stay put.
Customize program preferences
The tool lets you enter full screen mode and tinker with a wide range of settings. For instance, it can ask you to confirm file deletions instead of performing this action automatically, save and load the list of duplicates, fast check large files (you can set the size), allow the deletion of all files in a group (including the originals), or modify the default maximum file to scan.
Evaluation and conclusion
File search jobs were carried out swiftly in our tests while the utility remained light on system resource consumption. It didn’t hang, crash or show any errors.
Its interface could use some improvements in the visual department, though. Otherwise, DupTerminator is straightforward and effective, so you can definitely give it a shot. Plus, it’s free and open source.
