Mixxx Description

Mixxx is an open-source audio software application that comes packed with dual decks, iTunes integration, BPM detection and synchronization, live broadcasting, and automatic mixing capabilities for helping you mix your musical collection.

As soon as soon you run the program, you are required to select the directory where the items are stored. Plus, it features iTunes, Traktor and Rhythmbox integration, so you can easily access the audio files and playlists from these external libraries.

Mixxx offers support for headphone cueing for listening to the next track that you want to mix without adding it to the main deck, works with MIDI controllers and external USB soundcards, and lets you configure the audio parameters in terms or API sound and sample rate. The mixed sounds for decks, microphone and samples can be exported to a single file.

You can visualize the audio changes in a waveform display, use the vinyl tool for pausing, scratching or spinning back the songs like a real recorder, change the rate at which tracks are played, increase or decrease the speed, set the loop points of a track, and jump in between different parts of a song with hotcue controls.

Mixxx bundles VU meters, line faders, equalizer and gain knobs, and allows you to adjust the headphone volume, set cue points, apply special effects, play short samples in small decks, and listen to the songs before using them in your mix in a dedicated deck.

Furthermore, you can perform searches throughout the library, edit file metadata, organize tracks in multiple playlists, record your mix, and sort the items by different criteria.

The automatic mixing feature comes in handy when you want to take a break from mixing and let the application shuffle, skip, and change the transition in the next tracks. The mixed audio files can be exported to WAV, AIFF, MP3, OGG, FLAC, or AAC.

All in all, Mixxx provides a complete suite of tools for helping you mix songs in a professional manner. To make the most out of every single built-in feature, you should consult the help manual.
