WinPrint Description
WinPrint is a lightweight piece of software that was designed to help out with a problem that is rather rare today, meaningly printing from a DOS based application.
With WinPrint you are able to take the generated output from the application and forward it to a printer no matter if its a virtual or real one.
A GUI that is easy to make out
Since WinPrint is used to print on a DOS level, its graphic user interface is represented by a preferences window. It’s split into multiple tabs from where you can set the source folder, format to look after, set page margins, choose the character conversion type and much more.
It’s all fairly simple to understand if you’re familiar to the basics of printing as there are no elaborate or complex settings to go through, just the basic stuff.
Automate DOS printing
WinPrint enables you to set a source folder where it looks for files to print and once it identifies them, it does so. Since that location might contain a large number of different printable file formats, to avoid any chaos, the application allows you to pinpoint the exact ones you want to print by writing their extensions down in a special text field.
After you assign the folder and choose the target format, every time a file is moved to that location, WinPrint automatically prints it. As expected, the application allows you to opt for the printer you want to use for the job, set the number of copies and even set it to ignore blank pages.
A straightforward DOS printing solution
To wrap it up, though WinPrint is certainly not a looker, it’s a tool that is easy to install, configure and use. Three factors that guarantee it’s a practical solution for DOS printing.
