Code Compare Description
CodeCompare is a software application designed specifically for helping you compare source code within Visual Studio environment. It comes packed with a built-in editor, syntax highlighting, code folding, advanced code comparing features, and merging options.
User interface and importing/exporting options
You can work in a multi-tabbed layout for performing code comparison operations. Each panel is divided into two small windows so you can easily compare code.
You may add files in the first and second panels, provided that the file format is CS, VB, C, H, ASM, ASPX, XML, XAML, JS, SQL, RES, SLN, plain text file or other file format. Additionally, you may export data to one of the aforementioned file formats or print it.
Editing features
CodeCompare gives you the possibility to undo or redo your actions, cut, copy, paste or delete information, find and replace words, make uppercase or lowercase letters, view white space, and add bookmarks.
Comparison modes
The similar data is left unselected, while the differences between the two source code words are highlighted with blue. You may refresh the comparison mode and ignore white space, comments, line breaks and case.
Additionally, you can jump to the previous or next change found in the source code files, swap the left panel with the right one, and copy all changes to left or right panel.
Configuration settings
CodeCompare lets you export your settings to a file, so you can easily import them in your future projects, enable Windows Explorer integration, use the program from command-line, alter hotkeys, enable syntax highlight and code completion, alter font and colors, and modify colors for the code comparison mode.
What’s more, you can compare system/hidden files, exclude files bigger than a user-defined value, apply filters by file extensions, and hide identical files and empty folders.
An efficient source code comparison application
All things considered, CodeCompare comes with several handy features for helping you compare code stored in various programming files. If you are looking for advanced options, such as outlining, structural code comparison, similar line detection mode, and content comparison able to detect symbol by symbol, line by line or word by word, you can check out the professional edition of the utility.
