Cylix Description
Having to deal with files of multiple types can be a pain, especially if you use different editors. However, there are some specialized applications out there, just like Cylix, which combines multiple features in order to help you create and organized items like source code, web pages, text documents, PDF files, and pictures.
Password-protected database project files
One thing you need to know first of all is that you don’t even have to go through a setup process to make the application work. This makes it possible to take it for a spin as soon as download is done, but also have it deployed on a USB flash drive in case you wish to use it on other computers, while also having project files with you.
The application mostly works with main projects which you can fill with all kinds of files. These main item types can be fitted with a password to prevent unauthorized access. A project’s content is neatly shown in a tree list, which can be fitted with custom folders in case you want to create an organized layout.
Supports various file formats and editors
On the bright side of things, the application comes with support for a neat variety of files, such as pictures, PDF, text editors, HTM and HTML, as well as source code files, with integrated highlighter for CPP, C, H, HPP, CXX, XML, PHP, JAVA, PY, JS, CS, JSP, SVG, VBS, VB, LISP, PERL, TEX, and more.
Items can easily be accessed through the side panel. Upon selection, the canvas changes according to the active format, each being fitted with custom options. Unfortunately, there isn’t a great variety in features, such as the image editor, which only contains simple effects and color manipulation, or the PDF component which doesn’t come with page split and merge options.
The built-in autosave feature attempts to minimize the risk of data loss. All items and attachments are saved on exit, and become available when loading the project. Particular file types can easily be exported, but without the possibility to convert to similar formats, even if supported by the application.
To end with
Taking everything into consideration, we can state that Cylix comes with good intentions, and manages to bundle together different types of editors to meet basic office demands. Anything from plain text to source code and HTML can be edited, but the available tools leave much to be desired. Even so, it’s a good way to keep everything organized in a secure database.
