DAVID 3D Scanner Description
Since they can reduce the number of human errors and are better at communicating the designer’s intent, 3D models are preferred to other representations, at least in CAD design.
DAVID 3D Scanner is a utility that allows you create a realistic 3D surface model of the objects and surfaces around you.
Fresh and intuitive interface
After the quick installation, you come face to face with a sleek interface featuring a fresh combinations of colors and stylish lines. While the app is designed as a low-cost solution, you should know that you still require basic hardware to get results, meaning a standard camera and a hand-held laser.
The main window features an area where you can preview the scan, another where you can save the project and configure the camera settings and a third region where you can access the options and features of the toolbar menus.
Straightforward scanning, texturing and editing
It is worth mentioning that the program works on the principle of structured light scanning. Therefore, not only do you obtain those hard 90 degrees angles seamlessly, but the process is more accurate and reliable overall as you do not need to scan anything manually.
On a side note, before you can start working on your project, it is recommended that you take the time and set up all devices connected along with the variations of DAVID SLS.
Once you set up the camera and laser, you can starting calibrating the frames horizontally, vertically or in both directions at the same time. In addition, you can set up the pattern parameters, adjust the white balance, grab or erase textures, align the frames, tweak the sharpness, etc.
You can also capture frames during the scan and save them as separate objects (SLT, OBJ, PLY file formats) that you can use in your other projects.
An overall good tool for DIY fans
DAVID 3D Scanner is intuitive, comes with numerous features and does not have high hardware requirements. Therefore, it can be a handy tool if you enjoy working on CAD design projects on your spare time.
