Eric IDE Description
Eric IDE is a complex piece of software designed to work as a multi-platform development environment for both Python and Ruby, providing users with the means to create, edit and enhance their programs securely.
The main window of the application is fairly cluttered, featuring several different horizontal and vertical panels which are meant to offer users a comprehensive view on their code, enabling them to stay on top of every aspect from a single interface. These however can be activated or deactivated, according to each individual’s needs.
The ribbon of Eric IDE displays a wide range of functions and components on two rows, allowing users to quickly access the most common tools they work with, in just one push of a button.
The corresponding options can also be found in the various menus of the utility, namely ‘Edit’, ‘View’, Start’, ‘Debug’, ‘Unittest’, ‘Multiproject’, ‘Project’, ‘Refactoring’, ‘Extras’, and many others.
Aside from the more common features, such as the customizable syntax highlighting, brace matching, code completion or code calltips, the application also comprises an integrated web browser, that can function in ‘Assistant Mode’, is meant to assist users in further pursuing their work, enabling them to preview their code and tweak it where needed.
The utility provides users with code checkers that automatically determine whether there are syntax, style and errors inside the sourcecode. Eric IDE offers a Python and Ruby debugger, meant to help developers find the errors in their code, which even includes multi-thread and multi-process software, allowing users to correct any found errors.
Other features of Eric IDE include task management capabilities, components designed to help users preview Qt forms as well as numerous wizards for regex and Qt dialogs, along with countless other plugins that users can resort to when developing their code.
