Photo Combine Description
If you use multiple types of cameras to take photos, it is not uncommon to have file name conflicts when attempting to save them all on your PC. Renaming them manually is a tedious task, but there are specialized apps that can help you out.
Photo Combine is a relatively simple program that can quickly rename images grabbed with several types of cameras, adding each device’s model along with the date and time when the photo was taken.
Rename image files based on the embedded metadata
The first thing you need to do is specify which folder the application should scan for photos. However, the directory is not remembered, so you have to provide the path every time you launch the program.
Photo Combine automatically extracts information about the device used to capture each picture, as well as the time and date. Both the time and camera names can be modified if you feel that they are not accurate.
Gets the job done, but lacks customization options
Sadly, it is not possible to remove the time and date information from the file names, alter the formatting or change the order of the constituent elements.
In addition, it would have been great if Photo Combine offered you the option of modifying the original file names as well.
Overwrite the source files or export the renamed photos separately
Once you are happy with the new file names, you can modify the original photos directly or just export them to a new folder with the altered names.
Photo Combine allows you to process every image that has been imported from the source folder or simply select the ones that should be modified.
All in all, this is a useful app if you frequently need to rename photos captured with multiple devices, but it could be improved in certain respects.
