Pitch-Ability-Test Description
Musicians and musical conservatory students often find themselves practicing to improve their absolute pitch skills, including reproducing a piece of music after listening to it. The Pitch Ability Test application makes it possible for users to assess their music skills.
Configure the notes to play and the silence period for a user account
One starts by creating a new user in the Pitch Ability Test main window. The application is then redirected to the User Management screen, where the desired account must be selected. Then, the test configuration window is displayed.
The first time, Pitch Ability Test requests the user to select four musical notes that they can sing perfectly. Subsequent tests automatically load these notes so one has to perform this operation just this once. Nevertheless, the notes can be changed using the dedicated button.
The next step is to adjust the silence period, which is the time interval between the moment when the pitch is played, and the reproduction of the sound. Once all these settings are configured, the test can begin.
Take the test to assess your listening skills and your pitch retention
The duration of the test is about 40 seconds. The user should take the time to carefully listen to the played note and reproduce it as accurately as he or she can. As a side note, one must remember that in the silence time interval, the singing and humming is not recorded.
Pitch Ability Test displays the deviation, if any, for all the played musical notes. The user’s personal scoresheet is shown at the end of the test.
Great pitch retention practice tool for students
Pitch Ability Test is a good practice tool for musicians and conservatory students. Not only that it provides a way for them to evaluate their current pitch retention skills, but it also offers an instrument that they can use to practice everyday and improve their abilities.
