Smart OCR SDK Description
Computers can be fitted with powerful capabilities. For instance, specialized applications can scan sheets of paper and even recognize text to enable direct and comfortable editing. In this regard, Smart OCR SDK comes as a package of components developers can integrate in their programs to enable OCR functions.
The core purpose of this component package is to enable optical character recognition (OCR) in custom programs. The necessary code assemblies are found inside the package, and they come with support for several different programming languages, such as VB.NET, C#, C++, VB Script, Delphi, as well as VB 5 and 6.
Apart from the source files, the package also delivers several examples to prove the capabilities of the SDK. Character recognition can be performed on a variety of picture formats, such as BMP, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and GIF, as well as direct scanner input or from HBITMAPs and GDI+ Bitmaps memory.
The process itself performs document analysis, locating text regions, pictures, tables, and form fields. Text recognition can use multiple cores and relies on a built-in dictionary, with support for a custom one as well.
Access can be directed to recognized text, related properties, paragraph properties, and form fields. Output can come under the form of RTF, TXT< HTML, XLS, or PDF. Tables are supported, with a general attempt to retain layout, such as text and paragraph formatting, images, bullet lists, headers, and columns.
