StartMenu 8+ Description
StartMenu 8+ can tweak your Windows 8 or 8.1 computer and display the classic Start menu, with the help of which you can quickly launch important applications or frequently used folders and system utilities.
The interesting thing is that it offers you the possibility to completely substitute the Metro interface and use a standard Start menu for accessing applications. Alternatively, you can use StartMenu 8+ alongside the Metro Start Screen.
Run applications via the Start menu
StartMenu 8+ is very easy to configure and work with. Once it is installed and started, the Start menu can be launched by moving your mouse to the lower left side of the screen, right above the taskbar. For your convenience, the ‘Win’ key can also be used to open it.
The menu comes with a set of predefined programs, but you can easily delete those you don’t need (or don’t even have installed) and add your own shortcuts. To ease your work, a shortcut is added to the Windows’ context menu, enabling you to quickly send an application to the Start menu launcher.
The menu looks just like the Start menu of Windows 7, comprising shortcuts to various folders (‘Downloads’, ‘Documents’, ‘Pictures’, ‘Music’), My Computer, Recycle Bin or the Control Panel. As expected, it also integrates power options, enabling you to shutdown, restart or log off the current user the old fashioned way.
Disables Metro, implements a standard Start menu
The Start menu can be made transparent and you can customize the icon dimension and other options via the ‘Settings’ window. Probably the most interesting feature here is the possibility to disable the Metro Start Screen, the charms bar and the hot corners, which are specific to Windows 8. However, please note that this setting requires a restart for the changes to take effect.
Tweaks Windows 8 to feel like Windows 7
StartMenu 8+ can bring back the feel of Windows 7 by implementing a classic Start menu, replacing the Metro screen and deactivating some features that are particular to a Windows 8 computer.
