SunCalculator Description

SunCalculator is a handy utility which helps you to calculate sunrise, sunset and dawn times.

To see the available information for each sun time, just enter the latitude and longitude coordinates for your location, along with a date. The values can be calculated in decimal or degree, minutes, seconds entries, whichever is more convenient.

Calendar view

A standard calendar is presented in the top right area, which allows you to select dates ranging from the year 1801 to 2099. The desired date can be searched by navigating the calendar or jumping to it. The graph changes depending on the selected date, and shows daylight data along with civil, nautical and astronomical dawn times.

SunCalculator displays the precise time for each event (e.g. start, end, duration, duration of dark time and upper culmination), and can snap back to the current date when the “Now” button is pressed.

Custom view

The user’s location is added or removed from the drop-down menu with a few clicks. The calendar and detailed values for events can be switched on or off, while the overall aspect of the main window can be customized. The software application is also able to display a month table with rows and columns or using a linear graph view. Moreover, the countdown function displays values for different sun times like sunrise, sunset or upper culmination.

Sun position values

The current sun position and distance are displayed with values like declination, distance or orbital speed. Furthermore, real solar time is shown using both an analog and digital watch. The app has a diagram export function but, unfortunately did not work in our tests and caused the program to crash.

Conclusion

All in all, SunCalculator is a simple and great utility for users who want to know all about important sun times and positions. The application leaves a minimal footprint on system resources.
