Violet UML Editor Description
Violet UML Editor is a lightweight application whose purpose is to help users design UML diagrams.
Since this is a Java-based utility, you should make sure you have previously installed the working environment on your computer, otherwise you cannot run the tool.
This is a portable program, so it is important to mention that it doesn’t leave any traces in the Windows Registry.
You can copy it on any USB flash drive or other devices, and take it with you whenever you to need to build UML diagrams on the breeze, without having to go through installation steps.
The workspace is clean and intuitive and gives you the possibility to create one of the following diagram models: use case, class, activity, sequence, state, or object ones.
Plus, thanks to its multi-tabbed interface, you can work with several diagrams at the same time. What’s more, you can undo or redo your actions, perform basic editing operations (cut, copy, paste, delete), zoom in or out, and delete the selected component.
Depending on the diagram type that you want to design, Violet UML Editor provides several tools built specifically for helping you insert various preset objects (e.g. circles, rounded rectangles), embed text messages and change the background color of the notes, as well as add connectors, lines, and actors.
Last but not least, you can print the generated diagram, copy it to the clipboard, or save it to an image file, use hotkeys for a better control over the entire process (they cannot be reassigned), and drag and drop the components to any area of the working environment.
During our testing we have noticed that the tool carries out a task quickly, offers very good image quality, and no errors showed up throughout the entire process. However, just like any similar Java application, it eats up CPU and memory, so the overall performance of the computer may be affected.
All in all, Violet UML Editor seems to be the right choice in case you are looking for an easy-to-use program that provides a handy set of features for helping you create UML diagrams.
